Suppliers

Suppliers I have found Useful.

Metal stock:

  • Online Metals: This is the primary source I use for getting metal stock. They have a good selection and good prices. If you are just getting started, I recommend taking a look at their Metal Packs for getting a variety of sizes together.
  • Discount Steel: Despite the name, Discount Steel sells other metals in addition to steel. One thing to watch out for is that their standard length is 12 feet for a lot of their products, which is difficult to ship. Expect to pay a little extra for having the stock cut down to a reasonable size.
  • Speedy Metals: Speedy metals has an excellent selection of stock. They also are one of the few suppliers to offer a good selection of cast iron stock. Also, check out their "fire sale" section for discounted stock.
  • McMaster Carr: McMaster Carr is an industrial supply house that carries a huge variety of products including metal stock. I have found their prices to vary highly, sometimes being cheaper than the metal suppliers, but often much higher. One huge advantage is that they have warehouses throughout the country which helps keep shipping costs and times down.
  • MSC Direct: MSC Direct is another industrial supply company offering a wide variety of products including metal stock. If you subscribe to their mailing list you can get discount codes good for 25-35% off or free shipping from time to time.
  • Enco: While Enco focuses more on tools than on metal stock, they have a small selection that is often at good prices. If you subscribe to their mailing list you can receive coupons for up to 15% off or free shipping from time to time.
  • Small Parts: Small parts has a good selection of smaller stock and short lengths.
